WHAT IS CECABLE:

CECABLE is an international study center, research, information and diffusion of cable telecommunications, broadband and its services. The usefulness is clear, because the development of cable and broadband in Catalonia, Spain, Europe and the world, and the imminent installation of cable networks (HFC, FTTB, FTTH).

The technological revolution of the XXI century in the world requires a needs a center of continued analysis and in perspective of a phenomenon that has to be studied from the social, humanistic, technical and scientific slope.

CECABLE OBJECTIVES:

The main objective of CECABLE is the research about cable and broadband from a lot of perspectives. To this goal we elaborate studies, essays and other documentations.

Such as in the USA, where foundations and public and private institutions finance centers of this kind, here we have to count on finance funds of private offices and public administration.

The companies involved in the development of the cable and the public Administration are the principal addressees of the entity, from which the whole population benefits, while consuming or receiver of all the services of triple play (Internet, telephony, television) or quadruple play that part with the implantation of the broadband technology. 

HISTORICAL EVOLUTION OF CECABLE:

In October 2^nd, 1995 it takes place in Terrassa (Barcelona) the Cable Studies Center, a private no profit entity that offers a public service for users and companies. As the first center with this characteristics in Catalonia, Spain, Europe and the world, CECABLE has received the Catalan Record that evaluates the pioneer condition and the entity goal, and a lot of awards. Since its institution it has been constituted the CECABLE library, opened to the public and officially inaugurated in January 31^st, 1997.

CECABLE has elaborated studies, articles, publications and has developed a lot of projects, such as the Project Terrassa-Cable 2001, a lot of courses and conference cycles and participated strongly in Meetings of the Multimedia Industy of the Universidat Politécnica de Catalunya. The director of the CECABLE, doctor Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, professor of diverse universities (Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona, Universitat Oberta of Catalunya, Universitat Abat Oliba, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), has got numerous awards for his scientific task, as the Golden award of the First International Meeting of Cable Telecommunications Networks as better world expert of the cable and creator of the first center of studies on the cable of the world (CECABLE), the year 2005, and has published numerous and rewarded books and scientific index-linked articles.

The CECABLE collaborates with cultural activities, specially with the AFCT (Associació per al Foment Cultural de Terrassa). Also in this field the Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón has elaborated studies and books, as El Centenari del Terrassa Futball Club (1906-2006). Thanks to it Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón has received the Book 10 Award and the golden medal, among others. The analysis of the links between cable, broadband and culture is one of the areas of action of the CECABLE.
